If you’re a Red Sox fan, you should want to avoid the Astros like they have head lice.
Thanks in part to a good start by Rick Porcello, heroics by Mitch Moreland, and a botched call against the Astros at home plate, which was incorrectly upheld by replay, Boston stole one win in the three game series this past weekend.
The Red Sox now stand at 7-11 versus Houston the past two seasons and 3-4 this year. The defending World Series Champs seem to not be intimated by Fenway Park or the Sox lofty win total this year.
But while avoiding them might be the best policy, most likely that will be difficult and a Sox/Astros ALCS is a real possibility.
Here are a few other Sox stats and notes of interest:
JD Martinez becomes 4th player in Red Sox history to hit 40 HRs in 1st year with team. Others: Dick Stuart, Jimmie Fox and Manny Ramirez.
He is the first Red Sox player to have 40 homers in a year since David Ortiz in 2006.
ELIAS: The game between the Astros and Red Sox Sunday night is the first game at Fenway Park in which each team entered with a won-lost record at least 36 games above .500 since the “Bucky Dent game” in October 1978.
